Murphy Fire Update from Forest Service “fire in the canyon” effecting Hwy 70

Thursday 8-9-18 noon

While we are not showing a containment at this moment, there is a lot of black area within and around the fire. Crew are working to connect portions of line around the still actively burning fire.

Please note the new phone number and email address.

Other key points:

  • Initial voluntary evacuations (precautionary warnings) were lifted 6:00pm on August 9; the Red Cross Evacuation Center was closed.
  • CA Highway 70 is open.
  • All campgrounds and local businesses are open.
  • The Pacific Crest Trail is closed from Belden north to Highway 36.
  • Small trails in the area also remain closed including: Indian Springs, Ben Lomond, Chambers & Yellow.

RED FLAG WARNING FOR OUR AREA

Red Flag warning in effect until 10 PM Saturday night for gusty windy and low humidity for western slope.

Simply put this means no burning, powered yard tools, shooting or campfire.  ALSO no welding in the woods.

The low humidity and high winds will cause new fires to grow rapidly out of control.

PLEASE BE FIRE SAFE

THE BACK ROAD HAS BEEN RE OPENED Oro-Quincy Highway

AUGUST 2, 2018       6 PM

Several reports that the road is now open.  A local came thru and a camper reported to Haskin’s Store they had just arrived using the back road.

Apparently they sprayed a solution on the dirt to reduce dust and it was sticking to the cars as they traveled on the dirt detour so they closed the detour.

OK

There is a ROAD CLOSED  sign at Walker Plain.   All west bound traffic turns around at Walker Plain.

The Bucks Lake Rumor mill says the road was sprayed with a dust controller and the stuff is sticking to the cars as they drove through yesterday.

No we do not know how long this is going to be closed.  But we will update this site as we get more information.

P.S. you heard it here on the $18 per year website the firefighters built.  Was the $3,850 plus $2,900 for the HOA secretary per year website a good investment by the BLHOA???

nothing about the road closure on the HOA website in the year 2018
